| 1. Using a light touch for the initial drawing with nupastels (hard pastels), I closely observe angles and shadows. | 2. Refining the drawing by going darker (again with nupastels), and always paying close attention to detail. | |

| 3. Adding midtones and some high lighting using softer (Rembrandt) pastels. | 4. Developing the masses and checking the values of the compostion. | |

| 5. Applying and adjusting colors from darks to midtones, to lights. Again checking values and the direction of light. | 6. Finalizing by lightening the lights and darkening the darks. I did very little blending of colors. | |
